So. About Yammy. I'd never thought I had much of a knack for precognition, but in fact, my friend and I totally called this one. Saw it coming quite a long way off, actually. The reason we weren't more thrilled about this is -- we were not, in fact, 100% serious when we were making this prediction.

The following is, more or less, the conversation we had around the middle of last year. We were in the process of bashing Yammy for being an extraordinarily uninteresting and unappealing character, so Yammy fans may wish to stop reading here.

"I really don't get how he even became an Espada."
"Most of the Fracciones are cooler than he is."
"Heck, even Luppi was cooler." (Ouch.)
"You know what, I'll just bet Yammy is going to turn out to be a humongous plot twist. He's just biding his time."
"He's going to turn out to be the strongest Espada of all. Stronger than all the rest of them combined!"
"Yeah yeah! The number one in his tattoo will magically go poof and it'll be revealed that he's Espada number zero!"
"Ooooh, super special AWESOME plot twist!" (Yu-Gi-Oh!: The Abridged Series is super special awesome too.)
"The only way it could get any better is if he ends up being even more powerful than Aizen. Man, what if Yammy's the one manipulating the whole thing? Aizen's just the puppet, and Yammy's the REAL puppet master!"
"Well, then I wish he would pull some strings to bring Grimmjow back into the plot."
"Or Nel."
"Yeah."
"Yeah ..."

I'm sorry, I really am. To an extent, I realize I'm just being spiteful and bitter because Yammy has been reintroduced into the story and given a bafflingly important role with plenty of exposure, while dearest Grimmjow is currently still just lying around becoming part of the Hueco Mundo landscape. I acknowledge that Grimmjow has already been allotted more screentime than just about any other arrancar, that he's ridiculously popular and has enough character merchandise to his name to start his own spinoff series, and that it's about time poor underrated Yammy got some loving. I know all of this.

But still. Sometimes, Bleach, you make me wonder.
